Chemical reaction

A chemical reaction is a process in which ions, Atoms, or Molecules rearrange and transform, breaking old bonds and forming new ones. The result: entirely new substances with different properties emerge from the starting materials. Fire, rust, digestion, photosynthesis, and the Great Oxidation Event are all chemical reactions—some explosive, others imperceptibly slow.

Chemical reactions follow patterns governed by the Scientific method: they obey conservation laws, release or absorb energy, and can be predicted using Measure theory and careful observation. Catalysts speed reactions without being consumed. Reaction rates depend on temperature, pressure, concentration, and the presence of elements involved.

Understanding chemical reactions unlocked modern civilization—from metallurgy and medicine to Genetic engineering and industrial synthesis. They explain why materials age, how Soil composition forms, how life harnesses energy. Every transformation at the Molecular scale—from a rusting nail to the stars' fusion furnaces—is a chemical reaction reshaping the universe.

Chemists model reactions in laboratories and computationally through Molecular modeling. Industries engineer them at massive scale. Life itself is chemistry in motion.
