Telescope

A telescope is an optical instrument that collects and focuses Light to magnify distant objects, making them appear closer and brighter than to the naked eye. By bending or reflecting Light through lenses or mirrors, telescopes reveal details invisible in the night sky and beyond—from stars and planets to galaxies at the edge of the observable universe.

The earliest telescopes, built in early 17th-century Europe, used glass lenses to refract light. Later innovations like reflecting telescopes employed curved mirrors for greater power. Today, telescopes span the Electromagnetic spectrum, from visible light to radio waves, mounted on Earth or orbiting in space to escape atmospheric distortion.

Telescopes transformed humanity's understanding of our place in the cosmos. They enabled the discovery of moons around Jupiter, the rings of Saturn, and countless galaxies beyond our own. Modern computational techniques even allow multiple telescopes to function as a single instrument, revealing details at unprecedented scales.
