Verification

Verification is the process of confirming that something is true, accurate, or meets specified requirements. It bridges Intuition and certainty, answering the question: "Does this actually work the way we claim?"

Verification appears across domains. In Logic (mathematics), it means checking that a Mathematical proof is sound. In quantum mechanics, it confronts fundamental puzzles about observing reality. In Computational biology, it validates that a model predicts biological behavior correctly. Engineers use tolerance checks; scientists employ Triangulation and Feedback loops; software teams run test suites against data structures.

The concept assumes a gap between assertion and fact. Causal claims especially demand verification—we can't simply assume a relationship exists. Mathematical models require both proof and empirical testing. Even in Psychology, claims about human behavior need controlled observation.

Verification differs subtly from validation: verification asks "Did we build it right?" while validation asks "Did we build the right thing?" Both matter. A perfectly verified bridge that nobody needs is still useless.

At its heart, verification is an act of respect—for truth, for those who will use the verified thing, and for the possibility that we might be wrong.
