Mathematical function
A mathematical function is a relationship between inputs and outputs where each input has exactly one corresponding output. Functions are the fundamental language of mathematics—they describe how quantities depend on one another, from the simple to the transcendent. Whether expressed as equations, models, or abstract maps between sets, functions enable us to understand motion, predict cycles, optimize losses, and encode the logic of calculus itself.
The concept unifies disparate mathematical domains. A function assigns each element of its domain to a unique element in its range.
