Information
Information is the fundamental currency of understanding—patterns, signals, and meaning extracted from the raw stuff of reality. It flows through causality, structures systems, and underpins everything from cosmic expansion to metabolism within a single cell. Information exists wherever there is difference: the distinction between an electron and empty space, between silence and sound, between one chemical element and another.
Yet information is slippery. It can be encoded in waves across the electromagnetic spectrum—visible light, x-rays, infrared radiation—or trapped in the sequence of collected data. It can be transformed through substitution and graphed, visualized through information visualization, or simplified into a dashboard. Understanding information's structure requires analytical thinking and awareness of how it's presented to us through user experience design and accessibility.
Information isn't neutral; it shapes decisions, fuels technological change, and defines how we communicate across dialects and cultures. The challenge isn't finding information anymore—it's making sense of it.
