Matter
Matter is the physical substance of The universe—anything with mass and volume that occupies space. It's the stuff stars, planets, atoms, and you are made of.
For millennia, philosophers wondered what matter is. Today, physics reveals it's far stranger than "solid stuff": matter consists of Fundamental particles like electrons and quarks, governed by Fundamental forces. Rutherford's Gold Foil Experiment shattered the old picture of atoms as uniform spheres, revealing mostly empty space with a dense nucleus.
Matter and Energy are interconvertible (thanks, Einstein). Heat, light, and motion are energy; matter is energy's stable configuration. Entropy describes how matter's disorder increases over time—the arrow of time itself.
Matter shapes everything: planets coalesce from dust; stars forge chemical elements; life reorganizes matter into staggering complexity. Understanding matter means understanding why things move via Newton's laws, why Semiconductors power technology, and even why the universe expands.
The deepest question remains: Why does matter exist at all?
